Event Information

Country and bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs and renowned pianist and songwriter Bruce Hornsby, fellow friends and GRAMMY winners, go back out on the road to collaborate with Skaggs’ razor-sharp band Kentucky Thunder on brand new tunes and traditional bluegrass classics.  Without any restrictions, their music is as fascinating and masterful as the two stars that created it.  The pair blends songs drawn from deep roots in mountain music, adding piano and Hornsby's inimitable songwriting to Skaggs’ instrumental core of mandolin, guitar, bass, fiddle and banjo into a musical feast.  Punctuating the show is a vibrantly expansive version of Hornsby's early hit "The Way It Is" and a performance of "White Wheeled Limousine," and to sum up the free-spirited nature of their collaborations, Skaggs and Hornsby joyfully present the vintage fiddle tune "Cluck Old Hen."  Skaggs and Hornsby promise to kick up a storm with their mix of high-lonesome harmonies, full throttle bluegrass picking, and improvisational piano.

With 12 #1 hit singles, 14 GRAMMY® Awards, eight CMA Awards (including Entertainer of the Year), eight ACM Awards, eleven IBMA Awards, two Dove Awards and nine ICM (Inspirational Country Music) Awards, Ricky Skaggs remains a true pioneer to the Country Music, Bluegrass and Gospel / Christian music genres.  Since he began playing music more than 50 years ago, Skaggs has released more than 30 albums and has performed thousands of live shows.  Skaggs and his band, Kentucky Thunder, continue to keep the tour trail red hot, performing more than 80 live dates each year.  Skaggs started his own record label, Skaggs Family Records, in 1997 and has since released 12 consecutive Grammy nominated albums.  In 2012, Skaggs was inducted into the GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame and was also awarded the Pioneer Award from the Academy of Country Music that same year.

GRAMMY® winner with sales of more than eleven million albums to date worldwide, for more than two decades Bruce Hornsby has been praised as a virtuoso pianist, singer-songwriter, and band leader.  Known as a musician’s musician in addition to his remarkable career as a recording artist, the prestigious list of Hornsby collaborators now includes diverse figures like Ornette Coleman, Bob Dylan, Bela Fleck, Elton John, Branford Marsalis, Pat Metheny, Robbie Robertson, Leon Russell, Chaka Khan, Wayne Shorter, Squeeze, Tupac Shakur, Eric Clapton, Stevie Nicks, Bob Seger and Sting.  Indeed, Bruce Hornsby’s restless musical spirit continues to spontaneously push him forward into exciting new musical pursuits.  He’s currently working on a prospective Broadway musical titled SCKBSTD. “Song H” from Hornsby’s bestselling recent 4-disc box set Intersections was a recent Grammy nominee for Best Pop Instrumental.
