    Biography

    Toad the Wet Sprocket is still making new music and touring with the same spirit of independence that started it all over three decades ago and credit their success to the unwavering support of their fans. In their most recent music releases and live performances, the band has continued to stay true to their roots while evolving their sound. And now, in 2023, they are happy to announce their 2023 ALL YOU WANT Headline Tour, which will take them to cities across the country to once again reconn ect with their fans and share their music.

    The band consists of founding members Glen Phillips, Todd Nichols, and Dean Dinning. Throughout their career, Toad the Wet Sprocket has remained committed to creating music that is both meaningful and accessible. Their songs are filled with introspective lyrics and catchy melodies that have resonated with fans for decades. As part of their 2023 ALL YOU WANT Tour, audiences can expect to hear classic hits as well as deep cut favorites from the band's extensive catalog.

    Toad the Wet Sprocket first gained attention in the late 1980s with their debut album, Bread and Circus originally self released on cassette in 1988. Their sophomore release, Pale was recorded independently in 1989. Both records were release d by Columbia Records, in 1989 and 1990 respectively.

    Toad’s third studio album, " followed in 1991 and included their multi format iconic hit singles “All I Want and "Walk on the Ocean", was certified RIAA Platinum and further solidified the band' s popularity and mainstream success.

    In 1994 the band released " which included songs "Something's Always Wrong," and "Fall Down," both staples at alternative and mainstream radio, that helped Toad to earn their second RIAA certified Platinum Alb um and make Toad the Wet Sprocket a household name. In 199 5 Toa d released In Ligh t Syrup a collection of rarities that included the hit Good Intentions which was featured on the Platinum selling Friends soundtrack.

    The band took a break in the late 1990s, with the members pursuing solo projects. However, they reunited in 2006 and have continued to perform together ever since. In 2013, they released their first album in 16 years, "New Constellation," which was funded by their fans as one of the most successful music Kickstarter campaigns in history. The album includes fan favorite tracks “The Moment “California Wasted and “Enough that showcase the bands growth an d versatility. The album received critical acclaim and was followed by a successful tour. Toad's most recent studio album "Starting Now" ( marked a return to form for the band, with its catchy melodies, introspective lyrics, and signature harmonies. It well received and showcased the band's signature sound while also exploring new sonic territories. Songs like “Transient Whales “Starting Now and “Hold On serve as core performance tracks at live shows and as fan favorites.

    Throughout their career, Toad the Wet Sprocket has remained humble and grateful for the support of their fans. Lead vocalist Glen Phillips has stated in interviews that the band is amazed by the loyalty of their audience and is honored to continue creating music that resonates wi th them.

    90’s alternative rockers Marcy Playground celebrated their 20 year veterancy in the music industry in 2017. That year marked the anniversary of their 1997 self-titled debut album, which included the hit single “Sex and Candy”. In celebration of the anniversary, Slow Down Sounds released the album on vinyl for the first time ever. The album went platinum back in 1997, selling 1.4 million copies, while the radio classic “Sex and Candy” spent a then record 15 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Modern Rock chart.

    In the interim years Marcy Playground released four posterior albums “Shapeshifter” (1999), “Marcy Playground 3” (MP3) (2004), “Leaving Wonderland… In A Fit of Rage” (2009),  and “Lunch, Recess, and Detention” (2012). The albums demonstrated tremendous periods of creative growth for the group and are recognized as “cult classics” among the band’s dedicated fans. The band has also enjoyed notice by the big screen. Their songs are featured on soundtracks such as Cruel Intentions, Antitrust, Simply Irresistible, Hurricane Streets, as well as many films by writer/director Kevin Smith (Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back, Zack and Miri Make a Porno).

Alternative rock favorites Toad The Wet Sprocket have announced they will be embarking on the All You Want 2023 Tour this summer. The tour will include support from Marcy Playground and will see the band return to Cincinnati, OH for a performance at Taft Theatre on June 26.

Celebrating 30 years as a band, Toad the Wet Sprocket is still making music and touring with the same spirit of unwavering independence that started it all over three decades ago.

The band is thankful for the continued help and enthusiastic support of their fans, which helped spur the release of All You Want and also serves as inspiration for the band to tour and play live. They also continue to support their most recent releases, Starting Now (2021) and The Architect of Ruin EP (2015). Toad the Wet Sprocket share in the kind of musical chemistry that can only come from meeting in high school and writing, recording and touring on albums over the course time. After Bread & Circus, they followed with Pale in 1990, fear in ’91, Dulcinea in 1994, and Coil in 1997, as well as some compilations along the way. While most will still feel the comforting familiarity of the Billboard-charting hits, “Walk on the Ocean”, “All I Want”, “Something’s Always Wrong”, and “Fall Down”, fans will also be well familiar with tracks with lyrics that resonate for so many life milestones like “The Moment”, “I Will Not Take These Things for Granted” and so many more.
