Multi-award-winning artist Brian Culbertson will bring his signature blend of jazz, funk and soul to stages across the country in 2027 with “The Midnight Tapes Tour.” The tour supports his 30th album The Midnight Tapes, arriving February 5, and includes a performance in Cincinnati, OH at Taft Theatre on Wednesday, April 28. The ambitious, vintage-inspired collection features Culbertson performing all 44 instruments, showcasing his versatility as a multi-instrumentalist, producer and sonic innovator.
Known for his dynamic performances and elaborate stage productions, Culbertson will be joined on tour by an eight-piece band featuring Patches Stewart (trumpet), Adrian Crutchfield (saxophones), Darnell “Showcase” Taylor (guitar), Rishon Odel (bass), Eddie Miller (keys and vocals), Walter English III (keys and vocals), Chris Miskel (drums) and Gabriel Falcon (percussion). With a career spanning more than three decades, Culbertson has built an impressive catalog of music that moves effortlessly between contemporary jazz, funk, R&B and soul. His distinctive sound, exceptional musicianship and high-energy performances have earned him a devoted global following.
“I’m really excited to perform this new music on tour and hear how my band takes it to another level,” said Culbertson. “I already know how Chris will blaze on those drums and how Showcase will add even more funk to the guitar parts. Each musician is incredibly talented, so it’s going to be fun to see how the album tracks evolve. Visually, we’re planning some new looks with our lighting, instruments, and wardrobe that should bring the world of The Midnight Tapes to life onstage in ways our audience hasn’t seen before. I can’t wait!”
The album’s first single, “’76 Monte Carlo,” is a groove-driven track inspired by the feeling of a late-night ride. The single was released to radio last week, with its digital release and official music video arriving November 27. Its vintage-inspired sound and effortless groove set the tone for The Midnight Tapes, an album rooted in the timeless art of musicianship while bringing a fresh, contemporary energy to the sound.
