    Biography

Let’s start with the voice, an instrument through which she can communicate anything. A gift bestowed upon her that she has expertly trained, meticulously nurtured, and passionately galvanized into action by an urgency to make real music. Next, the stories, and she has them in spades. They are full of truth and beauty, heartache and thoughtfulness. They reveal colors we weren’t expecting to see. They make us close our eyes and relate. And finally, the soul – the emotional and intellectual energy through which these parts are fueled. That special something that prompted The Wall Street Journal to herald her as "the most promising young vocalist to come along so far this century." That young vocalist is Morgan James. And Morgan James is a soul singer.

Pop/Soul singer, songwriter and Broadway chanteuse, Morgan James announced today “A Very Magnetic Christmas Tour”. See the multi-talented performer live in The Ballroom at Taft Theatre on Friday, December 17.

“A Very Magnetic Christmas” is the fourth studio album from the luminous soul singer Morgan James. Following her acclaimed 2020 release of original soul music, “Memphis Magnetic”, she just couldn’t get enough of the Memphis soil: she returns to the world class Memphis Magnetic Recording studio with the same incredible band, for a classic holiday album, sure to become the new standard.

Recorded live to analog tape in Memphis, Tennessee, the album is packed full of rich ingredients: Memphis titans in the rhythm section, gospel piano, full horn section, with three brand new soulful Christmas songs and seven lush classics you already know and love. The album features a studio audience present at the recording, to capture an exhilarating live performance on tape. This album is a tender love letter to one of the great American birthplaces of soul. Rooted in her love of Aretha Franklin, Al Green and Otis Redding, Morgan delivers as only she can.

As a Christmas music fanatic, Morgan has been waiting patiently to make her own classic holiday record, and she wanted to satisfy all her fans and fellow music lovers. From Irving Berlin’s timeless “White Christmas” to the sexy “Backdoor Santa”, to a special collaboration with Memphis legend William Bell on “Everyday Will Be Like a Holiday”, to original R&B slow jam “Why Am I Lonely Tonight” or gospel shuffle “I Wanna Know”; the album has every quintessential flavor you need at the holidays.
